Combat capability is ultimately defined by mission capable aircraft on the ramp and available to the combatant commander. The Air Force sustainment enterprise, comprising both Government and Industry, is fundamentally responsible for ensuring that aircraft are available to meet the need. Modern manufacturing, logistics and sustainment techniques, when applied to aircraft designed and built before widespread use of computers, offer new ways to speedily solve sustainment challenges as long as focus is maintained on the end goal – delivering aircraft that are safe, suitable, effective and available.
